From 1-2pm on Wednesday, February 1 (Clemens 120, North Campus), scholar and journalist Shana Penn will give a talk-- entitled "Reluctant Heroines of the Solidarity Revolution in Poland" - on the pivotal role women played in keeping the Solidarity movement alive after the December 13, 1981 declaration of martial law and internment of Lech Walesa and most of the movements male leaders. Shana is the author of the recently published book "Solidarity's Secret: The Women Who Defeated Communism in Poland" the product of her 10 years of interviews with Solidarity women in Poland.
