Rima Aranha critically examines Shaadi.com, one of the largest matrimonial websites for the Indian community. She sets out by discussing the working of the website and the playing out of the roles of its various actors. Further, Aranha engages in questions of how social processes and social relations in the Indian society in general and within the institution of marriage in particular are negotiated, (re)inforced, and (re)produced in this matrimonial space, against the larger background of the globalization of ideas, goods, and people.
Rima Aranha is a PhD student in the Comparative Education program at the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy, UB.
