OPEN HOUSE AND SILENT/SOUND SCREENING
When: September 29th, 2006 6PM-11PM
Where: Squeaky Wheel, 712 Main St
Cost: Free
Discover Squeaky Wheel September 29th as we open our doors to the public and hold our first annual outdoor screening of local and nationally made films and videos. The festivities start inside Squeaky Wheel at 6PM, where we'll be screening the documentaries made by Buffalo Youth Media Institute students for last year's Portraits of Main Street project. The videos made by local middle and high school students document various aspects of Main St, including the Anchor Bar, Shea's, vacancy issues and graffiti. This is also a great opportunity to pick up applications for this year's Buffalo Youth Media Institute, which will be focusing on Buffalo's waterfront. Applications are due October 3rd.
At 8:30PM the screening moves outdoors where live bands will be scoring a variety of local and national films and videos, shown on a huge screen on the side of 712 Main Street. Local band 12/8 Path Band and musician Pam Swarts will perform to media by Jody Lafond, Ron Ehmke, John Knecht, Stephanie Gray, Meg Knowles, Alan Rhodes, Courtney Grim, Vince Mistretta, Julie Perini, Chris Ernst, Cheryl Jackson, Liz Knipe, Brett Williams, Tammy McGovern, Jax Deluca, Carl Lee, and many more.
The videos and films for our Silent/Sound Screening feature diverse subjects from go-go dancing to peep torture, vegetable porn to wrestling, Niagara Falls to Costa Verde, inner voices to surveillance, abandoned houses to packed barns and everything in between. Stop by for a glimpse of some of the best media Buffalo has to offer.
This is also an excellent opportunity to check out JT Rinker's Motion Studies installation in our gallery space. Utilizing LED lights, shadowboxes, and PVC tubing, Rinker has created a unique, perpetual, computerized shadow play.
