Inclusive Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow

Arts & Sciences, College of - Dean's Office
- Academic Year Lecturer

Purpose:

Santa Clara, a Catholic, Jesuit university located in Silicon Valley and ranked second by U.S. News among regional universities in the West, seeks applications for a two-year teaching and research postdoctoral position. A senior faculty mentor will work closely with the postdoctoral fellow to guide development of skills needed to be successful in teaching and research. The candidate will also contribute to the College Inclusive Excellence Initiative by meeting regularly with other postdocs, mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, and supporting inclusive excellence programs on campus. At Santa Clara, the typical teaching assignment is six courses for the year. The teaching and research postdoc would teach three courses in the first year and four courses in the second year. Ideally, both the postdoc and the mentor would teach similar courses so that they could visit each other's classes, discuss teaching strategies and develop a strong mentoring relationship. The postdoctoral fellow would also have approximately 50% of their time available to conduct research and work collaboratively with the faculty member. The postdoctoral fellow should gain 1) teaching and research experience that will prepare them for their first tenure-track appointment; 2) experience working in a primarily undergraduate setting; 3) an opportunity to learn how to design a research program; 4) an opportunity to develop teaching skills under the guidance of an experienced faculty member; and 5) an opportunity for mentorship.
