The GABIII conference committee is thrilled to provide the following
list of strategies we've used to try to make "Research Transformations"
have the lowest possible environmental impact. Please feel free to
share these strategies to transform our collaborative events.
Special thanks to GAB Sustainability Coordinator Nicky Fox, Jim Simon
of UB Green, Gender Institute co-Directors Rosemary Dziak and Margarita
Vargas, and Associate Director Pat Shelly for their forward-thinking
leadership.
1. Energy saving: Organizers have pledged to minimize use of lights and other electronic devices, to minimize our energy impact.
2. Carbon offsets: All energy expended for travel and conference activities has been compensated for by carbon offsets purchased through Native Energy (http://www.nativeenergy.com).
3. Food service: Thanks to our many generous sponsors, the Gender Institute will use dishes and silver for our meals. Campus Dining and Shops has donated coffee mugs for conference participants and Planned Parenthood of Western New York has generously agreed to donate additional mugs for use during the conference. Any leftover food will be donated to Compass House, a shelter and services facility for runaway and homeless youth.
4. Transportation: The conference committee has organized a carpool to and from the conference hotel and event sites.
5. Printed materials: The conference program will be a brief flyer with information about the schedule and the Institute; to save on printing costs and paper use, we'll be posting bios, abstracts, and much more on the conference website. We will minimize the number of print materials related to the conference (posters, publicity, working documents, etc).
Thanks for helping to support a more sustainable conference!
